Your Specific Responsibilities:

The incumbent in this position manages Public Health Clinical Services within the Division of Clinical and Community Health Services in accordance with the Florida Department of Health Programs and policies.

 

  • Coordinates multiple clinic activities across supervisory and divisional lines to ensure efficiency between admitting, laboratory, nursing, and other clinical encounters.
  • Manages the clinical operations for the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), Family Planning, Hepatitis C and HIV programs.
  • Supervises nursing and paraprofessional staff within the Specialty Clinic Services.
  • Attends Quality Assurance/Improvement meetings.  Provides feedback from QA/QI meetings, chart review, etc., through summary to supervisor with identified problems and proposed corrections.  Involves staff in chart review process and other QA activities as needed.  Meets with involved staff to discuss and implement corrective actions.  Documents and monitors results.  Follows and ensures that nursing staff adheres to Nursing Regulations and Technical Assistance Guidelines regarding professional practice and compliance with F.S.464, regarding licensure and safe practices.
  • Plans workload, workflow, deadlines, time utilization, and outcomes with employees and supervisory staff as appropriate.  Cooperates and coordinates with all staff to facilitate client intake, ensure maximum productivity and smooth clinic-client flow.  This includes collaboration with admitting/medical records, physicians, practitioners, laboratory, and nursing and paraprofessional staff.
  • Assists as needed in all Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County locations based on agency need.
  • Provides professional leadership and nursing care in the Special Needs Shelter.
  • Uses the nursing process to determine the medical, social, and psychological needs of client/family/community and provides interventions as needed.
  • Provides direct services to clients within the Nursing Practice Act and under the program guidelines for Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), Family Planning, Hepatitis C, and HIV programs.
  • Completes all required annual trainings in timely manner.
  • Maintains client confidentiality in a manner consistent with Chapter 384.29, F.S. and DOH policy.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to assess clients and make sound nursing judgments independently.
  • Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices & techniques.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, utilizing approved DOH abbreviations when documenting in the electronic medical record.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to safely administer medications within scope of nursing licensure.
  • Ability to work with persons of a different race, language, culture, or socioeconomic status.
  • Ability to adapt to necessary changes in duties, duty station, or work hours for the benefit of the agency.
  • Ability to operate, learn and maintain proficiency of computer skills & new programs required by Medical and Clinical Services divisions.
  • Skilled in one-on-one interviewing; ability to maintain accurate and appropriate medical documentation in EMR system.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum –

  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464
  • At least 1 year of clinical supervisory/management experience in any type of setting
  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases credentialling within 12 months of hire
  • Valid Florida driver’s License with access to private transportation, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire

 

Preferred –

  • 1 year experience working as a nursing supervisor
  • Experience working in a Public Health setting
