REQUIREMENTS

 

Certifies clients for participation in the WIC Program in accordance with the policies of the State WIC Program and regulations stated in DHM 150-24.  Provides nutrition education contacts to low risk, high, and medically high risk clients as defined by agency policies.  Provides education and breastfeeding support using approved materials and format.  Correctly documents nutrition assessment and care plans in FL Wise using SOAP or other approved format.  Attends and  participates in staff meetings and professional and staff development activities.  Completes required state and WIC trainings.   

 

Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics or Nutrition from an accredited college or university.  Must be licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist in Florida or another State or able to procure your license prior to hire. Must be a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Must have computer experience. Must have nutrition assessment, WIC certification, and nutrition counseling experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

Knowledge of the science and current practice of nutrition or dietetics.  Knowledge of the concepts and theories of nutrition and dietetics as it relates to growth, development, health and disease.  Knowledge of nutritional and dietary assessment techniques.  Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.  Ability to plan and conduct a nutrition program or project.  Ability to analyze and interpret anthropometric, biochemical dietary and clinical data.  Ability to use various counseling and educational styles. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities.  Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to use a computer, fax machine, copier, printer.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The duties and responsibilities of this position involve nutrition assessment, counseling, and education for individuals and groups including professional staff and community.

 

 

Certifies clients for participation in the WIC program in accordance with the policies and regulations stated in DHM 150-24. Provides nutrition education contacts to low, high and medically high risk clients as defined by agency policies. May travel to outlying clinics as needed; maintains the same client service standards as in the main clinic. 

 

Provides assessment, nutrition education, counseling and breastfeeding support using approved materials and format.  Assists clients in setting goals for behavioral change and evaluates client progress in meeting goals.  Correctly documents nutrition assessment and care plans in FL Wise using SOAP format.  Entries are correctly signed and dated with title included.

 

Accurately completes reports and data entry into EARS, HMS, People First, and the FL Wise system by required deadlines using the FL Wise manual and DHM 150-24 policies and procedures.

 

 

Participates in preparation and presentation of newsletters, bulletin boards, in-service training, and other activities as assigned by supervisor.   May be required to present nutrition programs to healthcare professionals and community organizations.

 

Provides services to clients in an efficient manner so that clinic flow is smooth and caseload is evenly distributed among nutrition staff.  Follows established sanitation, safety practices and computer and phone use policies.

 

 

Attends and participates in staff meetings, and professional and staff development activities.  Completes required state and WIC training as evidenced by completion certificates or TRAIN transcript.
