REQUIREMENTS

The duties and responsibilities of this position involve nutrition assessment, counseling and education as follows:

 

Certifies clients for participation in the WIC Program in accordance with the policies of the state WIC Program and regulations stated in DHM 150-24.  Provides nutrition education contacts to low, high and medically high risk clients as defined by agency policies. May travel to other outlying clinics as needed; maintains the same client service standards as in the main clinic.

 

Provides nutrition counseling, education and breastfeeding support using approved materials and format. Assists clients in setting goals for behavioral change and evaluates client progress in meeting goals. Makes referrals as appropriate.

 

Correctly documents nutrition assessment and care plans in medical records using SOAP or other approved format. Entries are correctly dated and signed with title included.

 

Accurately completes reports and data entry into EARS, HMS, People First and the WIC system by required deadlines using the WIP manual and DHM 150-24.

 

Provides nutrition counseling, to clients of the health department and to private sector referrals; documents direct nutrition care using SOAP or other approved formats.

 

Selects, develops and evaluates client education materials; prepares lesson plans, newsletters, etc. Conducts nutrition education classes for clients according to established standards. May be required to present nutrition programs to healthcare professionals and community organizations.

 

Provides services to clients in an efficient manner so that clinic flow is smooth and caseload is evenly distributed among nutrition staff. Follows established sanitation, safety practices and computer and phone use policies.

 

Attends and participates in staff meetings and professional and staff development activities 90% of the time. Completes required state and WIC training as evidenced by completion certificates.

 

May provide services in Ocala, to the Reddick Clinic or travel to in outlying communities at times. May be required to use personal vehicle for transportation.

 

Must have a Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in Nutrition or Dietetics. Must be licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist in Florida to another State or able to procure your license prior to hire. Must be a registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Must be willing to travel to outlying clinics, using your own vehicle. Experience completing Nutrition Assessments, writing care plans, and/or providing nutrition counseling in a hospital, private practice, or Public health setting preferred. Experience working for WIC as a Nutritionist preferred.  Must have computer experience.
