SPECIAL NOTES:

Preference will be given to applicants with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in insurance or risk management. 

Additional preference will be given to applicants holding a valid Florida insurance license; to applicants with Property & Casualty, Life & Health, Bail Bonds and Title insurance experience; to applicants with a proven ability to work independently.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of one year of recent insurance or insurance related professional work experience within the past five years. 
  • Experience collecting, evaluating, and analyzing data. 
  • Experience organizing data into a logical format for presentation. 
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
  • Valid driver’s license and be willing to travel when necessary within the state of Florida and occasionally overnight on short notice.

Employment normally starts at the base salary.

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle. 

This position requires a security background check, including fingerprints and a driving record review, as a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document work flow and other activities relating to the improvement of work assignments and management practices.
  • Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials.
  • Ability to understand and apply Florida Statutes, rules and regulations relating to insurance matters.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: 
Responsible for investigating routine cases and also those more complex and high-profile cases involving alleged violations of the Florida Insurance Code and Department Rules by licensees in the areas of property, casualty, bail bonds, title, life, health and viatical insurance, adjusting practices and activities related to unauthorized insurers under the direction and supervision of a Field Insurance Regional I Administrator-SES.

Responsible for on-site investigations review, examination, and evaluation of evidentiary documents obtained pertaining to licensees and the operations of insurance companies.  Documents include but are not limited to:  insurance policies, forms, contracts, endorsements, underwriting practices, claims forms, advertising, handling of premium monies, claims handling procedures, sales practices, licensing requirements, record keeping methods, and other related matters.

Responsible for conducting interviews, gathering evidence, taking affidavits, interpreting statutes and rules, and writing comprehensive reports for the purpose of initiating disciplinary action or prosecution by the Department against licensees.  Interacts with appropriate agencies, divisions, attorneys, law enforcement, and state attorneys when necessary. Testifies at administrative hearings when necessary. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:  Maintaining work files, proper usage of state-issued equipment and preparing related reports according to Bureau and Department procedures and rules, participating in training, workshops, conferences, and study groups to keep abreast of statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and insurance matters.

Serves as a team leader for insurance agency investigations, audits, and/or examinations and serves as technical advisor on team and task force investigations.  

Performs related work as required.
