FSDB SALARY RANGE – 10 months:  $18,567.40 - $23,067.40 annually.  This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.


REQUIREMENTS: Completion of 60 college semester hours from an accredited institution; or Associate of Arts Degree or higher; or a score of 464 or higher on the Para Pro Assessment and a High School Diploma.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:  Applicants under consideration for employment at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind will be required to complete background investigation.  Fingerprints will be taken and sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a background check of your criminal history record(s) at the state and national level.


WORK LOCATION: Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, 207 N San Marco Ave, St. Augustine, Florida


WORK HOURS: Monday – Friday; Schedule varies.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  To assist classroom teachers with the daily operation of a classroom.  Manages students and directs classroom activity in the absence of the classroom teacher.  Develops learning materials for students (independently or as directed by the classroom teacher).  Conducts small group or individual learning session with students either independently or under the direction of the classroom teacher.  Assists classroom teacher with: classroom instruction, redirection of students who are off-task, behavior management, role playing, planning and preparation for field trips and special events, recordkeeping, attendance, grading classwork.  Accompany students to PE and stay in area to assist teachers.  Supervises students in the dormitory for naps and/or buses.  Escorts students to appointments in a variety of settings across campus including Health Care Center, Related Services and other departments.  Performs front office duties when necessary and if appropriate.  Residential Duties and Responsibilities:  Supervises and instructs students in self-care skills and activities of daily living.  Writes and submits written reports to the Director of Student Life on significant happenings during the boarding period.  Serves as a liaison between the boarding and classroom programs.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):  Knowledge of child/adolescent behavior; Ability to complete yearly training and administer skills acquired during CPR and CPI; Knowledge of principles and techniques of effective written communication; Knowledge of office procedures; Ability to operate general office equipment; Ability to plan, prepare and implement educational and instructional materials (with direction from teacher); Ability to implement and maintain individual programs (curricular and behavioral) for students; Ability to supervise and transport/escort students independently; Ability to work with children and adults; Ability to communicate effectively and professionally verbally and in written form; Ability to plan, coordinate and execute work assignments; Ability to establish effective and professional working relationships with others; Ability to communicate effectively in the appropriate mode of assigned students; Ability to write incident reports and attend to detail; Ability to document and follow through on behavioral programs.
