FLORIDA LEGISLATURE Description

The Florida Constitution vests legislative authority in the bicameral Legislature of the State of Florida.  The Legislature is one of the three branches of Florida government, and is comprised of the Florida Senate and the House of Representatives as well as several joint legislative committees and other entities that support the functions of the Legislature. The elected members of the Legislature, 40 Senators and 120 Representatives, meet each year during the Legislative Session to establish laws that govern the state which are then compiled as the Florida Statutes. The Legislature offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits including employer paid dental insurance, in addition to the traditional benefits offered to state employees such as health insurance, paid leave and more.
