This advertisement is for a Vocational Teacher-EJT- Electrical position located at Century Correctional Institution in the Education Department.




  •  High school diploma and six years of field experience in Electrical, or bachelor’s degree and two years field experience
  • Must obtain a valid Department of Education certification or valid Department of Corrections vocational certification within 12 months of hire date.  Professional certification must be obtained prior to the expiration of the temporary certificate.


The incumbent in this position is responsible for teaching a course to prepare inmates for a career in Electrical and provide a variety of monthly reports.

Duties include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Plans, develops and conducts classes in the assigned subject(s).
  • Utilizes various teaching techniques and activities to assist students with their educational advancement.
  • Responsible for the supervision of inmates assigned to the class.
  • Conducts roll calls, counts and maintaining attendance records.
  • Ensures that order and discipline, tool control, and safety are maintained in the classroom and/or shop.
  • Continually evaluates students and makes determinations as to overall progress. Administers grades and evaluates tests.
  • Counsels and advises individuals regarding their program progress, behavior or personal concern.
  • Participates in staff meetings, seminars and workshops to identify needed curriculum changes and to facilitate professional development.
  • Assists in budget preparation and processing purchase requests for the education program.
  • Delivers individualized competency based instruction through classroom and laboratory management in the occupation al program areas taught to students or trainees.
  • Evaluates and maintains records of the student’s or trainee’s progress toward completion of pre-stated performance objectives.
  • Executes all applicable forms to adhere to institutional procedures.


  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Knowledge of Electrical techniques.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of a vocational area.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of curriculum development including special needs.
  • Skill in operating necessary equipment and tools specific to the vocational subject.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to listen effectively.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to vocation instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to teach vocational courses to individuals in a group setting.
  • Ability to develop appropriate curriculums.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
