A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in forestry. Course work must include the following four (4) courses: Silviculture, Dendrology, Forest Mensuration and Forest Management; or

Receipt of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in forestry or related field within six (6) months of the closing date of this advertisement. Requires possession of a valid Class E Driver License.

The anticipated hiring salary for this position is $32,988.80 annually.


This is a technically demanding, professional and administrative position responsible for developing, directing, and coordinating the multiple use management and recreational plan on the Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest.

Responsible for coordinating the implementation of the management plan on Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest.  This includes such things as supervising work crews, watershed manipulation, wildfire surveys, prescribed burnings, exotic species control and developing programs for recreation.  This position may be required to perform Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) work, including FIA Certification by the United States Forest Service and gathering and recording of FIA plot data in the field. 

Provides wildfire and emergency support as directed.  Assists in the development of smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning plans and hazardous fuels mitigation.  Assists in the enforcement of Florida’s open burning laws and regulations. Attends training and classes in emergency management.

Responsible for holding public workshops and working with local agencies (Department of Environmental Protection, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, National Park Service and police agencies) to ensure cooperative efforts and input into the management of the forest.

Responsible for keeping abreast and knowledgeable of forestry topics, research, endangered species laws, ecosystem management techniques, and prescribed fire.

Performs other related work as assigned, which may include the handling of revenue.
