This position is located in the Florida Gaming Control Commission, Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering, Office of Investigations.


Duties & Responsibilities:


This is work-conducting investigations which may include processing of appeals and/or extensive field work involving alleged complex violations of Florida Statutes. The incumbent of this position is responsible for conducting background investigations of applicants for occupational licensing, and conducting investigations of possible violations of Chapters 550, 551, and Sections 849.086, Florida Statutes.


Primary duties of the position will require the investigation of complaints and alleged violations of Chapter 550 and 551, and Section 849.086, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 75, of the Florida Administrative Code.  Valid driver's license is required.  These duties include:


  • Conducting background investigations of applicants for Pari-Mutuel and Slot occupational licenses.
  • Responsibility for securing, evaluating, and documenting evidence.
  • Opening investigative case files using an internal case management system, and preparing written, detailed investigative reports.
  • Coordination with law enforcement agencies when investigating violations of mutual concern.
  • Assisting agency attorneys with the preparation of cases and testifying at hearings.
  • Inspection and compliance confirmation of permit holder internal controls.
  • Conducting undercover investigations and operation of surveillance equipment as needed.
  • Performing regular and routine inspections of pari-mutuel/slot facility operations to ensure compliance with Section 849.086, Chapter 550 and 551, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 75 of the Florida Administrative Code.
  • Briefing and advising Investigative Supervisors and the Chief of Investigations regarding active investigations and developing areas of concern.
  • Performing related work as assigned.




Minimum Qualifications:




QUALIFYING INVESTIGATIVE EXPERIENCE is defined as independent investigative experience which includes the following activities: interviewing and interrogating witnesses, collecting, and analyzing data and evidence, writing, and summarizing case narratives, and testifying at criminal proceedings and administrative hearings. Experience must be clearly supported on employment application.


NON-QUALIFYING INVESTIGATIVE EXPERIENCE INCLUDES: Routine police patrol, traffic enforcement, building surveillance, collection of delinquent accounts, skip tracing, credit checking, hotel or store detective, parole officer, correction officer, security guard, or any other position which does not involve the level of field investigation as those positions described above.




Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Knowledge of and ability to understand and apply applicable Florida Statutes, Rules, policies, and procedures relating to the pari-mutuel industry.
  • Ability to collect, record, and verify data relating to the pari-mutuel industry.
  • Ability to use available technology to perform duties including computer software, hardware data systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Ability to produce detailed, clear, and concise written reports.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
