BEHAVIORAL SPECIALIST

APD TACACHALE FACILITY 4 & 8

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA

 

Provides adequate follow-up of individuals both directly and via consultations with other disciplines and direct care staff. Provides direct observation across settings, modeling, and consultation for assigned individuals, working to facilitate behavioral stability and improved quality of life.  Provides in-service training, and monitors efficient implementation of behavior supports.

 

Attends interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss resident progress including Individual Support Plan meetings, Interdisciplinary Team meetings, psychiatric clinic reviews, Human Rights Advocacy Committee meetings, Local Review Committee meetings, placement/transition meetings, Behavior Specialist professional meetings, general staff meetings, and other meetings as required.

 

Evaluates and assesses residents including intellectual, adaptive scales, record review, direct observation, behavioral data analysis and consultation with other interdisciplinary members. Develops behavior support plans that incorporate the required ABA elements, including results of functional behavior assessment and specific strategies to teach replacement behaviors. Writes annual summaries and completes monthly progress reports that reflect each individual’s status and progress.

 

Remains current with research literature in the behavior analysis field and other areas that may benefit individuals receiving services. Continues to learn best practices in competency based staff training, generalization, and maintenance strategies and other professional areas.  This might include participation in workshops, seminars, graduate level courses, and other relevant activities.  Maintains professional association with other professionals in the field.

 

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, INCLUDING UTILIZATION OF EQUIPMENT:

 

Must have knowledge of the theories and principles of clinical, counseling or behavioral psychology.

 

Must have knowledge of psychological testing and behavioral principles.

 

Must have the ability to complete functional assessments and psychological tests.

 

Must have the ability to prepare annual behavioral reports.

 

Must have the ability to analyze and interpret behavior data.

 

Must have the ability to apply computer software; Word, Excel, Internet.

 

Must have the ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

 

Must have the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT(S):

 

A Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Special Education and experience working with persons who have developmental disabilities.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

 

This position is located at a 24- hour facility.  Working hours for this position: 8:00 am – 5:00pm. Regular Days Off: Saturday and Sunday.

 

Employees may be required to work additional days/hours based upon the needs of the home and center.  This includes, but is not limited to:  ensuring home coverage, activities, holidays, and emergency situations.
