MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in forestry and three (3) years of professional, administrative or supervisory forestry experience; or

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in forestry and two (2) years of experience as described above.

Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid class E driver license.

Occasional to moderate travel required. Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

NOTES:

The anticipated minimum hiring salary for this position is $36,467.60 annually.

JOB DUTIES:

Responsible for the management of the forest resources of the Waccasassa Forestry Center, which includes the Goethe State Forest, Welaka State Forest, Etoniah Creek State Forest, Carl Duval Moore State Forest, Newnans Lake State Forest, Indian Lake State Forest and Andrews Nursery.  Includes administration of local land acquisition programs, easements, leases and special use permits.

Supervises the attainment of forest management goals to ensure multiple public benefits including yield of forest products as well as the protection of all natural resources in the Waccasassa Forestry Center.  Supervises the preparation of cutting budgets, reforestation programs, stand description and maintains the forest inventory system.  Responsible for evaluation plans and programs upon completion.  Coordinates management of endangered species and other non-timber resources.  Reviews and evaluates prescribed fire activities on the State Forests.

Responsible for the management of Andrews Nursery.  This involves the production of 12 million bare root seedlings and 5 million tubelings annually.  Includes responsibility for seedling growth, packaging and distribution statewide.  Coordinates with the Levy Forestry Work Camp to ensure adequate labor force at the nursery.

Responsible for coordination of land acquisition as it relates to the Waccasassa Forestry Center.  Prepares and administers leases, easements and special use permits for state forest lands.  This includes bee hive permits, firewood permits and use of Welaka State Forest training facilities.  Supervises the accountant position to ensure fiscal responsibilities are carried out for the Center.

Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner.  Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with Florida Forest Service and department policies and procedures.
