Duties and Responsibilities:

The Sr. Registered Nurse Supervisor assists and reports directly to the Sr. Community Health Nursing Director in the overall administration of all nursing policies and standards for DOH-Monroe, and the oversight and direction for the Division of Health Promotion. The incumbent is specifically responsible for the direct supervision of HIV, TB, Hepatitis, PrEP, Limited Primary Care, STD, and Refugee Health program for the GATO Clinic in Key West, Ruth Ivin’s Center in Marathon, and ROTH Clinics in Tavernier. In addition, the incumbent will play a role in the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) program ensuring clinic HRSA Work Plan grant deliverables are met or exceeded.   

 

This position is responsible for the planning, directing, and organization of the clinical programs such as HIV, Adult Health, STD, PrEP, Hepatitis A, B, and C for all clinics. This includes monitoring clinic no show rates, clinic sustainability, planning and directing work, supervision and development of staff, approving leave, etc.

 

Provides direct public health nursing services as necessary, including but not limited to pregnancy testing, counseling, referrals and follow-ups, adult and child immunizations, HIV counseling and testing, STD screening, PrEP services, refugee health, and other general clinic services.

 

Manages ordering, receiving, dispensing, and counseling clients receiving medications for all programs including but not limited to HIV, PrEP, STD, and Hepatitis. Ensure medication room stays clean and organized.

 

Interpret and facilitate department policy for Division of Community Health Promotion and other nursing policies throughout the CHD. Plans, creates, implements and evaluates procedures, policies and protocols for community health nursing practice and community health programs assuring compliance with local policies and all related state and federal programmatic requirements, rules and regulations.

 

Work with the Immunization – Family Planning Program Manager to ensure proper coverage is provided for flu Pods and community outreach events.

 

Covers for the Sr. Community Health Nursing Director while she attends meetings or is on leave. Attends community meetings during Director’s absence. Assists with planning and conducting Division staff meetings, along with Managers’ meetings.

 

Works with Sr. Community Health Nursing Director to assure all staff are working on quality improvement projects, are aware and following the values of the FDOH, and assists with the division budget, including budget analysis and review.

This position will participate in service planning for all the Florida Keys Health Services and the entire keys for emergency preparedness. Performs emergency preparedness duties.

 

Monitor and ensures monthly clinic supply orders are submitted by the deadline date to ensure clinic is adequately stocked.

 

Attends meetings, seminars, conferences. Attends a minimum of 2 (two) health fairs/community outreaches per year.

 

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

 

  • Knowledge of nursing practices principles, techniques, and usage of PPE (N95 masks).
  • Ability to administer medications to provide direct patient care and treatment.
  • Ability to independently provide and coordinate patient care.
  • Skill interviewing persons in an efficient, effective yet compassionate manner.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills and intranet.
  • Ability to read and correctly interpret medical records and abstract data accurately and completely.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clients, co-workers, other professionals and in groups.
  • Knowledge of infection control, health care services, principles and methods of infectious disease prevention and control.
  • Knowledge of community resources and organizations.
  • Knowledge of vaccine management and immunization assessment.
  • Knowledge of data collection.
  • Knowledge of Health Management System/Electronic Health Record.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to demonstrate cognitive thinking and problem solving.

 

Licensure/registration/certification requirement (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite):

  • This occupation requires licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with chapter 454, F.S. or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with FAC 2010.8.22 or 8.27, or certification as a physician’s assistant is accordance with Chapter 458 F.S.
  • Possession of a valid Florida’s Driver’s license is required for this position
