MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A high school diploma or its equivalent and four (4) years of experience in a laboratory, greenhouse or nursery, the biological sciences, or related field; or
College or vocational/technical training can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for the required experience provided such education includes three courses in the physical and/or natural sciences. (Note: If education is being used to qualify for this position, you must provide a copy of an official or unofficial transcript as supporting documentation showing the required coursework.)

JOB DUTIES:
This position assists Biological Scientists in maintaining the LaCrosse Citrus Repository Facility that support the FDACS-Division of Plant Industry’s Citrus Budwood Registration and Certification programs.
- Maintains a clean and organized laboratory space, including but not limited to dish washing, sweeping, disposing of trash, and mopping.
- Inventories, cleans, and provides seed for greenhouse planting and shoot-tip grafting (STG).
- Performs laboratory duties to support shoot-tip grafting (STG) activities, including but not limited to preparing laboratory media following written protocols, sterilizing tools, and germinating seed in vitro.
- Assists greenhouse staff with watering, potting, scouting, pruning, and moving of plant materials.
- Assists greenhouse staff with weeding, cleaning, and organizing of greenhouse spaces.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of basic laboratory safety procedures.
- Knowledge of personal computer operations and software (Microsoft Office).
- Knowledge of plant-insect interaction.
- Skilled in completing and maintaining accurate records.
- Ability to understand and follow technical instructions.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and bend repetitiously.
- Ability to work outdoors in hot, cold, humid environments.
- Ability to walk on uneven ground and in inclement weather.
