This position requires a valid Class (B) driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Drivers Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

 

  1. three (3) or more moving violations in the past 3 years that accumulate 3 or more points per violation;
  2. any 2 convictions of reckless driving in the past 3 years;
  3. a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past 3 years; and
  4. a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction in the past 4 years

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Assist with Independent Assurance evaluations in the field as described in Department procedures and/or the Federal Aid Policy Guide.  Perform these evaluations in an objective and professional manner. Perform field and/or laboratory testing in the field in accordance with the applicable Florida Sampling and Testing Methods (FSTM), American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) or American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) test method. Report results precisely in the appropriate database. Keep all testing equipment calibrated and in good working order. Obtain and maintain all qualifications necessary to perform the test in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) procedures.Take timely action to report any errors in the data. Provide materials related technical support to customers as requested. Provide support in time to meet the customer’s needs.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of:  the general concepts, terminology, principles and techniques of field sampling and testing. Skill in: using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments. Ability to: operate a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheets and database applications; interpret engineering data; solve problems relating to engineering; perform technical engineering tasks; apply engineering quantitative techniques; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; to communicate technical information effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; pick up to 50 pounds and move around uneven terrain without assistance.

 

OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: Must pass or have passed Construction Math and Contract Plans Reading Self Study examinations.  Requires Class “B” CDL License. This position will be required to respond before, during and after emergency situations.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  High school diploma or equivalent.  Prior experience using engineering or manufacturing tools, equipment and/or instruments.
