Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.
Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility.

40 HOURS PER WEEK.
This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Pharmacy Technician OPS within the Medical Division. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. This role requires the use of independent judgment, a proactive approach to responsibilities, and exceptional attention to detail. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
- The applicant selected to fill this position shall be required to submit to a pre-employment medical examination.
- Completes Window #1 responsibilities by being in view of the pharmacy service window; assisting the pharmacist with orders received; filing computer generated medication orders for pharmacist’s review; refilling, re-labeling, and sealing emergency drug kits; monitoring receipt of medication check forms from wards; answering the phone in a prompt and courteous manner and performing special assignments.
- Completes Window#2 responsibilities by assisting with the weekly ward medication order filling, restocking filling areas; advising the inventory person of drugs that need to be ordered; filling computer generated medication orders for pharmacist’s review; refilling, re-labeling, and sealing emergency drug kits; monitoring receipt of medication check forms from wards; answering the phone in a prompt and courteous manner and performing special assignments.
- Operates a state vehicle and maintains a valid Florida driver’s license; Picking up and delivering resident medication orders; assists with weekly ward medication filling; assists with prepackaging of unit dose medication, restocking of the filling areas and advising the inventory person of drugs that need to be reordered; Transports completed medication orders to resident living area according to the hospital schedule.
- Assists with weekly ward medication order filling.
- May assist with monthly living area pharmacy inspections and prepare documentation reports.
- Prepackages medication and maintains sufficient packaging supplies.
- Provides computer assistance for the pharmacy department.
- Provides back-up for other work assignments and is available for special assignment.
- Assists with inventory control to insure cost effective operation.
- Assist with rotating all pharmacy stock according to expiration dates.
- Assist with quarterly inventory of the top 40 items, identified by the Pharmacy Manager and the annual inventory of all pharmacy items.
- Check all pharmacy inventories quarterly for expiration dates.
- Assist with maintaining the pharmacy in a clean and orderly manner.
- Provide input at staff meetings on any activity that may improve pharmacy operations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:
- Knowledge of the standards and terminology used in the practice of pharmacy.
- Ability to inventory supplies.
- Ability to maintain records.
- Ability to collect and analyze data and prepare reports.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work responsibilities.
- Ability to prepare purchase requisitions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with the State of Florida Board of Pharmacy.
- A high school diploma or its equivalent, or completion of a vocational, military or community college pharmacy technician program or licensed practical nursing program and one year of experience as a pharmacy technician, or two years of experience in providing nursing or direct patient care service of a medical nature in a county health department, hospital or institution, clinic, convalescent home or other medical setting.
- College coursework in pharmacy, nursing or other medical related field can substitute at the rate of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours for the required work experience.
