MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

•Licensure as a physician pursuant to Chapter 458, Florida Statutes, and two years of post-licensure professional experience in the practice of medicine; or

•Licensure as an osteopathic physician pursuant to Chapter 459, Florida Statutes, and two years of post-licensure professional experience in the practice of osteopathic medicine; or 

•Certification by a recognized board in a medical specialty area can substitute for the required experience.

DESCRIPTION

 

This is work providing diagnoses, treatments, and helping to prevent diseases and injuries that commonly occur in the general population.

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK

 

Provides medical care (assessment, diagnosis, and treatment) and follow up for residents with intellectual/developmental disabilities with medical acuities and chronicities.  

 

Conducts physical assessments and prepares yearly medical habilitation plans.

 

 Active engagement with residents on medical caseload. Manages health care. 

 

Attends quarterly active treatment planning and special active treatment meetings.

 

Performs monthly medication and dietary reviews and monitors a wide variety of chronic conditions under written protocol. 

 

Ensures documentation of admission histories, physicals, and discharge summaries on all acutely ill individuals admitted from assigned facilities. 

 

Prepares clinical summaries for internal and external medical consultations.

 

Confers with internal and external consultants (i.e., psychiatry, neurology, internal medicine). 

Participates in specialty clinics.

 

Initiates the process of obtaining informed consent for psychotropic medications, surgery and medically necessary testing. 

 

Performs employee pre- employment physicals/screenings as deemed necessary.

 

Attends and participates in selected medical/nursing meetings as assigned by the Health Care Division Director/Medical Executive Director.

 

Performs other related duties as deemed appropriate and necessary under the purview of medical intervention and quality care. 

 

Examines or conducts tests on patient to provide information on medical condition.

 

Analyzes records, reports, test results, or examination information to diagnose medical condition of patient.

 

Prescribes or administers treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.

 

Explains procedures and discuss test results on prescribed treatments with patients.

 

Collects, records, and maintains patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results.

 

Refers patient to medical specialist or other practitioner when necessary.

 

Plans, implements, or administers health programs or standards for information, prevention, or treatment of injury or illness.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

This occupation requires licensure as a physician pursuant to Chapter 458, Florida Statutes; or licensure as an osteopathic physician pursuant to Chapter 459, Florida Statutes; or a current Public Health Certificate issued by the Florida Board of Medical Examiners pursuant to Section 458.316, Florida Statutes.

 

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT:

It is the policy of the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities that applicants for employment undergo Level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.
