Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a professional position requiring a team approach in developing and implementing a Mobile Dental Unit in Pasco County. This is work:  performing under the direct, indirect, and/or general supervision of the attending dentist and providing dental hygiene and preventive services.  Promoting and evaluating community based dental preventive and health education programs; providing treatments as well as dental screenings; and performs record review and prepares reports as needed.   The program will be designed to provide dental services to students in Pasco County Schools and dental clinic locations.

 

Under the supervision of the dental program manager will assist the attending dentist in all expanded functions as permitted by the Florida Board of Dentistry.  Performs dental screenings, prophylaxis, sealants, and fluoride treatments.  Performs periodontal charting.  Exposes dental radiographs.  Provides education and demonstrates oral hygiene instructions.  Communicates home care and treatment needs to patients and parents of minors.  Cleans and disinfect operatories.  Sterilizes dental instruments.  Documents encounters in client records and charts dental restorations and treatment needs.  Assist the dentist in patient care as needed; acts as back up dental assistant preparing trays with instruments and supplies required; assist with fillings, extractions and root canals working in all DOH-Pasco dental clinic locations. Maintains and manages a hygiene recare appointment system according to DOH-Pasco Dental Policy and Procedure.

 

Upholds quality infection control standards through the sterilization or disinfecting of all operatory and laboratory equipment, instruments and supplies.  Responsible for ensuring that all the patient care is provided in an aseptic environment.  Handles all bio-hazardous waste and sharp objects according to Federal and state OSHA(Occupational Safety and Health Administration) guidelines.  Maintains accurate charts and records by documenting treatment rendered, referrals, and/or prescriptions given to a patient, radiographs, phone conversations with patient and billing or receipt copies made. Plans, coordinates and implements outreach events with school and community partner organizations. Working under the guidelines of the DOH-Pasco while providing dental service to students in all dental clinic locations in Pasco County.

 

Organizes and maintains electronic and paper records and files for the dental program.  Manages use of EagleSoft electronic system, HMS in accordance with DOH procedures. Records all activity and time by DOH policy. Updates the dental program procedure manual, the Dental Material Safety Sheet log, the Dental hazardous materials Procedure Handbook and Dental Program Equipment Manuals as required by Federal, State, and DOH-Pasco regulations. Attends training and seminars as they become available to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities as it relates to duties and responsibilities. Responsible for securing the designated information sets for the purposes of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record, which is stored in hard copy and electronic forms.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities, Including Utilization of Equipment required for the position:   

Knowledge of dental terminology. Knowledge of dental hygiene principles and practices. Skill in using dental instruments and equipment. Skill in performing dental prophylaxis. Ability to instruct patients in preventive dental techniques. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities: Bi-lingual in Spanish and English, basic computer skills, and knowledge of EagleSoft Dental Software.
