JOB SUMMARY: This position is with the Department of Revenue, Property Tax Oversight program. This position is available for Orlando, Tampa or Fort Myers. This work is appraising commercial real property to determine it's just or market value for assessment purposes in accordance with prescribed guidelines. The incumbent will research, compile and analyze market, cost and income data in the development of estimates of value. Examples of work include, but are not limited to: Appraise real property, improved and vacant, to determine fair market value; Inspects property, considering factors such as market value, location and building or replacement costs, to determine appraisal value; Assesses and computes taxes according to prescribed tax tables and schedules; Writes and submits appraisal and tax reports for public record; Interprets property laws, formulates operational policies, and directs assessment office activities; Considers such factors as depreciation, value comparison of similar property, and income potential, when computing final estimation of property value; Inspects property for construction, condition, and functional design and takes property measurements; Considers location and trends or impending changes that could influence future value of property; Interviews persons familiar with property and immediate surroundings, such as contractors, homeowners, and other Realtors to obtain pertinent information; Prepares written reports, utilizing data collected, and submits reports to corroborate value established; Searches public records for transactions, such as sales, leases and assessments; Photographs interiors and exteriors of property to assist in estimating property value, to substantiate finding, and to complete appraisal report..

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum two years of fee or mass appraisal experience, which must include appraisal of commercial properties.
  • Experience in collecting and analyzing large quantities of sales, income and expense data.
  • Experience in the application of multiple approaches to value and the proper appraisal methodology.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word, and the ability to compile, interpret, and display valuation data results. 

PREFERENCES:

  • Hold a State Certified General Appraiser License
  • Hold a State Certified Residential Appraiser License
  • Hold a Registered Trainee Certificate
  • Hold a professional real estate designation
  • Have completed any formal real estate education program
  • Have work experience in mass appraisal 
  • Have an Associates or greater

  • Positions are typically hired at the minimum of the pay grade; current annual starting salary is $36,467.88. Program policy requires that this position be filled at the base salary. An additional annual stipend is added for State Certified General appraisers.

SKILLS VERIFICATION TEST: All applicants who meet the screening criteria/minimum job requirements will be required to take a Skills Verification Test. Applicants must receive a score of at least 70% to be considered further.
