MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma or its equivalent and four (4) years of experience in laboratory work.

College or vocational/technical training can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for each year of the required experience provided such education includes three courses in the physical and/or natural sciences.

Possession of a valid driver license.

Flexible work schedule will be up to 40 hours per week as determined by supervisor.

JOB DUTIES:

GENERAL STATEMENT: This position will support statewide Tephritid fruit fly detection, control, and eradication programs by conducting research and methods development activities.

Designs and executes investigations into the life history, host relations, detection, control and eradication of exotic fruit fly species in Florida.

Accurately records and organizes field and lab maintenance and experimental data.

Maintains proper inventory of supplies and equipment used for fruit fly research and rearing. Includes keeping assigned equipment clean, calibrated and ready for use.

Performs other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory safety procedures.
  • Ability to work independently, compile written reports, and make innovations in equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and bend repetitiously.
