Minimum Qualifications

  • This position requires licensure as a Dental Hygienist in accordance with Chapter 466 Florida Statute.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.  
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Willing to travel to other sites within the County
     

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Pediatric dental hygienist experience
  • Experience in Health Education
  • Bilingual
  • Experience placing dental sealants
  • Experience with Fluoride
  • Experience with electronic dental software programs
  • Experience with Florida Medicaid managed programs

Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

 

This is a professional position requiring a team approach to include working in the Department of Health School Readiness Program in St Lucie County. Includes:  performing under the direct, indirect, and/or general supervision of the attending dentist and providing dental hygiene and preventive services to children ages 2-5 in Early Learning Coalition childcare centers.

 

Under the supervision of the dental director will provide expanded functions as permitted by the Florida Board of Dentistry.  Performs dental screenings, prophylaxis, sealants, fluoride treatments.  Performs periodontal charting.  Exposes dental radiographs.  Provides education and demonstrates oral hygiene instructions.  Communicates home care and treatment needs to patients and parents of minors.  Cleans and disinfect operatory.  Sterilizes dental instruments. 

 

Maintains accurate charts and records by documenting treatment rendered, referrals, and/or prescriptions given to a patient, radiographs and/or phone conversations with patient. Assist with scheduling follow up appointments as needed. 

 

Upholds quality infection control standards through the sterilization or disinfecting of all operatory and laboratory equipment, instruments and supplies.  Responsible for ensuring that all the patient care is provided in an aseptic environment.  Handles all bio-hazardous waste and sharp objects according to Federal and state OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) guidelines.  Complies with all Department of Health and Dental security and confidentiality rules and requirements.

 

Manages use of Dentrix electronic system in accordance with DOH procedures. Records all activity and time in HMS by DOH policy. Attends training and seminars as they become available to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities as it relates to duties and responsibilities.  Incumbent may be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency operations functions required of the incumbent include but are not limited to special needs shelters other emergency function.  Required to perform interpreter duties if bilingual.  This position may require to travel to other sites or community events in the County to ensure appropriate coverage.
