Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is looking for a self-motivated park service professional to fill a specialized position working as the supervisor for the underwater theater department at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park. Develops, plans and coordinates all on and off site performances, training, certifications, schedules, maintenance and safety for the department. This position is 40 hours per week. Approximately one hour north of Tampa, Weeki Wachee Springs consists of 10 distinct natural communities totaling 570 acres. At 359 acres, scrub is the largest community. This is a high visitor services park with a majority of the public concentrated on the 32-acre Historic Attraction and Buccaneer Bay. Recreational opportunities include historic mermaid shows, swimming, water slides, kiddy pool, tour boats, wildlife shows and various special events throughout the year.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a specialized position working as the supervisor for the underwater theater department at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park. Develops, plans and coordinates all on and off site performances, training, certifications, schedules, maintenance and safety for the department.
PROTECTION: Responsible for tracking dive related certifications, regulations, skills and knowledge of employees and volunteers so that they are in full compliance with all dive safety requirements and all dive safety regulations. Enforces a no-dive policy for those not in compliance. Promotes the safety of staff, volunteers and visitors at all times and ensures that proper training and certifications are held for underwater performers/volunteers and maintenance divers. Ensures that approved Dive Plans are in place for all on-site and off-site programs and activities. Implements emergency action plan for all diving activities and maintains all areas in safe conditions for staff and visitors. Reports any issues to park management immediately. Ensures that the park’s Dive Program is in compliance with the DEP Underwater Operations Manual (UOM).
MAINTENANCE: Responsible for overseeing all maintenance and preventative maintenance of the underwater theater areas and equipment so that they are clean, fully operational and safe. This includes all props, sound systems, communications systems, underwater safety camera system, air curtains, compressors and life support equipment, underwater breathing systems, equipment and stage areas found in the main spring and all equipment associated with the Dive Program. Report any unsafe issues to park management. Supervise staff daily assignments to maintain cleanliness and safety of equipment and work areas. Maintain checklists of all equipment and systems to ensure compliance with the DEP UOM. Maintain checklist of proper maintenance and care of historical buildings, features and costumes. Ensure Compliance with DEP UOM in regard to General Maintenance of Underwater Theater Area and Equipment.
VISITOR SERVICES: Provide necessary training and knowledge to performance staff to ensure all programs are performed safely and professionally. Develop new shows and programs to expand theater presentations and other interpretive opportunities on and off site. Attempt to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations. Develops a team work ethic and treats park visitors and co-workers with respect.
ADMINISTRATIVE: Supervises staff in a positive, motivating manner. Oversee employee selection, training, discipline and performance evaluations. Maintains all related paperwork to include rosters and documents to maintain compliance with all dive safety requirements of employees and volunteers as identified in DEP UOM. Maintains all administrative paperwork, schedules, reports and forms as required by park policies and directives. Develop dive plans for all underwater activities. Ensures all records on underwater systems & life support equipment are kept up to date; and that daily inspection and dive logs are completed.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: Ensures that work completed by staff does not have a negative impact on the spring. Ensures that staff follow all guidelines when using any chemicals and products. Provides training to staff on the significance and importance of historic cultural items and the proper care of these items. Ensures compliance with DEP UOM in regard to maintenance and removal of lyngbya and other nuisance algae.
Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of: the principles and techniques of mechanical repair work of equipment and safety procedures to be used with the equipment; equipment used in the theater program (including, but not limited to props, sound systems, communications systems, underwater safety camera systems, air curtains, compressors and life support equipment); diving theory and application of safe diving practices, procedures and techniques; educational performance arts and training methodologies. Skill in: planning and developing educational performance arts programs; social media, video segments Ability to: plan and prepare educational programs involving lectures and exhibits and conducts or supervises educational programs/ outreach and PRS on a local or statewide basis; organize, film underwater for b-roll footage, coordinate and schedule work assignments; maintain records and document inspection results; work with volunteers and staff to ensure proper maintenance of safety, communications and other equipment is properly maintained and repaired; follow written and verbal instructions; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; prepare reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; deal with visitor inquiries in a tactful, efficient and courteous manner; understand and apply rules, directives and policies, laws and regulations; conduct routine inspections, identify and investigate problems; use assorted power tools and equipment; work rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays; do grounds and building cleaning and maintenance; work in and out-of-doors and underwater; lift 40 pounds; operate radio equipment; operate State vehicles; maintain a valid driver’s license; holds current valid Open Water SCUBA certification , has current experience on breathing apparatus, current First Aid, current CPR, current Emergency Oxygen Administration and current Blood Borne Pathogen Training; participate in Medical Monitoring Program.
Other job-related requirements for this position: Incumbent of this position will participate in the DEP Medical Monitoring Program for DEP divers.
