Description of Job:

This Assistant General Counsel position reports directly to a Chief Legal Counsel, in the Office of the General Counsel. As the Assistant General Counsel you will represent the Department in trial and appellate work in civil and administrative cases, including, Division of Administrative Hearings (DOAH). This position is responsible for preparing pleadings, briefs, and attending oral arguments incidental to these cases.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants with a combination of two (2) years of litigation and appellate experience.

Special Notes:

  • The selected applicant must be a member of The Florida Bar in good standing.
  • The selected applicant must pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) criminal history background check.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing. A driver’s license history review will be conducted on all candidates in consideration for the position.
  • Travel is required.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in civil, appellate, and administrative litigation. 
  • Possess excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Code, and federal laws, rules and regulations.
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.

General Information:

The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.
