POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Assists in the development of statewide design policies and procedures. Reviews proposed revisions to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Bridge Design Specifications

 

Participates in development of plans and design calculations for in-house bridge projects. Reviews plans and design calculations for compliance with contract documents. Uses Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) to develop plan sheets and details for in-house design projects.

 

Assists in developing and publishing the Structures Manual. Uses CADD to develop and revise Structures Manual figures. Assists in managing the Structures Manual Task List on SharePoint to coordinate revisions.

 

Participates in research projects and in-house parametric studies and evaluations.

 

Assists in performing Quality Assurance Reviews (QARs) of the districts.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Structures Manual, FDOT Design Manual, Standard Plans for Road and Bridge Construction, Basis of Estimates Manual, Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) Production Criteria Handbook; Knowledge of American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Load-and-Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) Bridge Design Specification, Standard Specification for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaires and Traffic Signals and Manual for Bridge Evaluation; Skilled in utilizing Microsoft Office Programs; Skilled in web-based programming and publishing software; Ability to utilize Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software; Ability to solve engineering problems; Ability to read and interpret structures and roadway construction plans; Ability to effectively coordinate and communicate with others, verbally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or its equivalent and three years experience.
