    Description of Job:

    This position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for the maintenance of lawns, trees and landscaping to the Neil Kirkman Building complex.  This position cleans and maintains the complex parking lots and sidewalks.  This position is also responsible for performing routine and preventative maintenance on the complex sprinkler system and all grounds keeping equipment.  This position will also perform custodial duties on an as needed basis.



    Job Requirements:

  • This position requires the incumbent to have and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing. A driver’s license history review will be conducted on all candidates in consideration for the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. for short distances and to be able to bend and push equipment (such as a lawn mowers/edger) in order to complete assigned tasks.  This position also requires the incumbent to stand and walk for extended periods of time in both controlled indoor, as well as, outdoor environments (exposed to weather).


    Preferred Qualifications:

    Preference will be given to applicants with experience performing grounds keeping work.


    Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of common landscaping plant types.
  • Knowledge of common weed, insect and pest types.
  • Knowledge of common treatment methods for common weeds, insects and pests.
  • Knowledge of grounds keeping procedures.
  • Ability to follow schedules, prioritize multiple tasks and solve practical problems.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Skilled in the operation of grounds keeping equipment to include, but not limited to riding and push mowers, weed eaters, blowers, edger’s, hedge trimmers and miscellaneous small engine landscaping equipment.
  • Skilled in preventative maintenance requirements of above mentioned equipment.



    General Information:


    The process for selecting applicant(s) for this position could take up to six months.  Following the six month period, a new application must be submitted to an open advertisement in order to be considered for that vacancy.


    HSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
