POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a highly responsible professional position in FDLE’s Office of Information Technology Services (ITS).  The Office of Information Technology Services provides a wide range of services to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Florida criminal justice agencies that use its information systems.  Duties for this position include installing, maintaining and supporting Linux based servers in FDLE’s 24x7x365 datacenter.   Other duties are as follows: installing and supporting Redhat Jboss middleware products, such as EAP, AMQ and FUSE; installing and supporting the Commvault Backup software; utilizing automation software such as scripts or Ansible playbooks; providing after hours on-call for Linux based server systems; creation and updating of applicable documentation for new and existing Linux based systems.  This position is an entry level position in Open Systems Administration.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Maintaining ITS server availability to our customers 99% of the time, excluding required preventative maintenance, including agency mission-critical systems which pertain to public and officer safety;
  • Ensuring systems/software installed contain no errors of sufficient magnitude to render production systems unusable;
  • Ensuring all installations adhere to the standards, policies, and procedures of ITS for hardware and software management;
  • Ensuring all software and hardware will be thoroughly tested to ensure adherence to the required functionality;
  • Ensuring that all configurations should reflect fiscal responsibility and high reliability while meeting the needs of the customer;
  • Ensuring all installations adhere to the standards, policies, and procedures as established by ITS;
  • Ensuring that the recommended configurations effectively meet the customer’s requested need;
  • Providing lifecycle maintenance and support for Software programs managed by OSA and system hardware and peripheral devices;
  • Adhering to the ITS and FDLE procedures for hardware and software management.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Basic knowledge of Red Hat Linux Operating Systems;
  • Ability to support Java, JBoss Web applications;
  • Knowledge of Virtualization technology;
  • Knowledge of backup methodologies, procedures and ITS policies regarding the management of backups;
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex programs and work flows;
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively;
  • Ability to follow established ITS policies and procedures; and
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, especially fellow OSA staff.

BASE SALARY:

  • $48,667.50

NOTES:

Starting salary will be at the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy. The elements of this selection process may include a work sample and/or interview. Future vacancies may be filled from this position advertisement.
