JOB SUMMARY: This is a technical position with the ISP Service Maintenance Unit in Tallahassee. This position assists with planning and coordinating the design, installation and connectivity of computer and network systems to ensure the stable operation of the organization's IT assets. This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all new and existing network hardware, software and communication links. This person will also assist in ensuring the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, video and wireless network services, which is achieved by planning, designing and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Distributed Computer Systems Analyst will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support and optimization of all network hardware, software and communication links. This person will also troubleshoot network performance issues, as well as analyze network traffic and provide capacity planning solutions. This individual shall analyze and resolve wireless local networks (WLAN) hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end-user training where required. The Distributed Computer Systems Analyst is also responsible for the organization's telecommunications infrastructure, which includes configuring, diagnosing, repairing, upgrading and optimizing all telephone systems and services, voicemail and VoIP/IP-PBX communication systems, and video conferencing environments, both internally and those integrated with Internet-based services.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years' experience in computer systems analysis, computer programming, or in planning or designing distributed computer systems; OR
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems and one year's experience in computer systems analysis, computer programming, or in planning or designing distributed computer systems; OR
  • A Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems; OR
  • Three years’ experience as described above and either (1) completion of a 720 classroom-hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in an area of data processing (excluding data entry), or (2) 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college course work from an accredited institution with includes four courses in computer science or management information systems.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • Experience as described above can be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  • Completion of a one-year program of study from a vocational/technical school in an area of data processing (excluding data entry) can substitute for one year of the required experience.

PREFERENCES:

  • Preference will be given to applicants with three or more years’ experience of first contact/help desk/level 1 customer service.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience conducting research into enterprise networking issues and products.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience with enterprise-level LAN, WAN and WLAN engineering, design and implementation.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience engineering routers, hubs, switches and access points.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience with network capacity planning, network security principles and general network management best practices.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience with PBX, voicemail, interactive voice services, call management systems and telecommunication accounting systems.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience creating and maintaining thorough technical documentation.

NOTES:

  • Position located in Tallahassee, Florida. It is not a telework position.
  • Work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
