Job Description

The essential function of the position within the organization is to provide legal interpretation and support to court program offices and judicial commissions and committees and/or assist with continuing judicial education programs. The position is responsible for providing legal interpretation of statutes, rules and case law; assisting with the development, implementation and evaluation of court or judicial education programs, and assisting with policy development; the Senior Attorney I may supervise administrative and support staff. The position works independently, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Education and Training Guidelines:

Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis and additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis.  

Juris doctorate degree and three years of related experience including two years of experience in the appropriate specialty area of law for the position.

Requires membership in the Florida Bar.

Equipment Usage:
Leads or handles machines, tools, equipment or work aids involving some latitude for judgment regarding attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items, such as computers, peripherals, or software programs, such as word processing.

Refers to the responsibility for other people’s safety, either inherent in the job or to assure the safety of the general public. Requires some responsibility for safety and health of others and/or for occasional enforcement of the standards of public safety or health.

Special Comments

The Senior Attorney I must be familiar with court procedures and the legal interpretation of statutes, rules and case law.  Knowledge of court procedures regarding domestic violence cases preferred.  Work activities require the ability to maintain excellent domestic violence cases preferred.  Work activities require the ability to maintain excellent working relationships with judges and court staff.  The applicant must have significant experience with legal writing.  Experience with budgets and grant management are also preferred.
