The purpose of Florida educator certification is to support the academic achievement of students by assuring that our educators are professionally qualified for highly effective instruction. Florida educators must be certified to teach in public schools and in many of our private schools. Educators include classroom teachers, school administrators, and other support professionals, such as guidance counselors and media specialists. DESCRIPTION
In this position, the candidate will perform administrative duties for the Communications Unit which requires independent judgment, strong verbal and written communication skills, and exceptional customer service.
The Bureau of Educator Certification (BEC) has an open position that is responsible for executing the following functions:
• The employee must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities and maintain goal-directed behavior and performance sometimes under stressful conditions.
• The employee must interact courteously with others.
• The employee’s performance and behavior must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and morale of the team.
• Attendance is an essential function of this position.
General Responsibilities:
• This position is responsible for providing daily direct customer service through the Educator Certification Contact Center from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• This position requires ongoing training for the comprehension of Florida certification laws and rules to support applicants and stakeholders by phone and email.
• This position requires independent work in a fast-paced environment.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Provide and explain information regarding all aspects of the certification process through the Educator Certification Contact Center.
• Provide certification forms and materials in response to telephone and electronic mail requests from the public.
• Provide accurate responses to electronic mail and certificate verification requests from the public and government agencies.
• Provide additional administrative and clerical assistance to the communications unit and BEC personnel liaison as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of Florida State Board of Education Rules and procedures governing issuance of Educator’s Certificates and renewal of certificates.
• General knowledge of the application process.
• Skills in keyboarding, updating database files, operating imaging system and operating telephone system.
• Ability to organize work activities and handle challenging situations.
• Ability to prepare forms for data entry, to communicate effectively and to maintain effective work relationships with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Microsoft Office experience
• Previous experience working in an office setting
