POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

Performs special assignments involving complex bridge design, review of in-house designs including bridges and miscellaneous structures, research of existing documentation to develop design policies and specifications, and identifies needs related to structures.

 

Develops and works with management in the implementation of new design policies, procedures, and the Structures Manual on an annual basis.

 

Reviews post-tensioning systems for compliance with specifications.

 

Coordinates the development of construction specifications which are originated in the Structures Office and comments on proposed specification revisions originating outside the office.

 

Recommends proposed revisions to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Bridge Design Specifications and develops proposed revisions as necessary.  Assists in the coordination of adopted American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials revisions into Florida Department of Transportation policies and manuals.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the design and construction of major bridges including steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and post-tensioned concrete; 

Knowledge of test methods for bridge components and bridges; 

Skill in the design of bridge components; 

Ability to work with individuals or teams to resolve issues; 

Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally; 

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others; 

Ability to work independently and adapt to work situations and assignments; 

Ability to evaluate engineering works and systems for areas of improvement.

 

REQUIRED LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

Registration as a Professional Engineer pursuant to Chapter 471, Florida Statutes.

 

OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS:

Registration as a Professional Engineer pursuant to Chapter 471, Florida Statutes and one year of post-registration experience.
