This position is in the Bureau of Medicaid Data Analytics' Data Solutions Unit, which is in the Division of Medicaid of the Agency for Health Care Administration. This is a highly responsible position that applies knowledge of the Florida Medicaid program and experience working in preparing, analyzing, and manipulating databases to produce data and reports on Florida's SMMC program.  Specifically, this is a data analyst position that applies data, programming, and data management skills to complex data analytic tasks. The incumbent will work with project and program leaders to identify analytical requirements needed to design, develop, implement and maintain business solutions.  Responsibilities include: analyzing large claims, encounter, and eligibility data; interpreting results using a variety of techniques ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to independent complex data mining; assimilating and reporting data and research activities in reports and technical writing documents; and assisting in the design and implementation of various data collections instruments needed for special program analyses, policy studies, program evaluations and other research.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and familiarity with the Florida Medicaid Management Information system and other Florida Medicaid databases, is desirable.
  • Knowledge of methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Advanced skill levels utilizing Excel, Access, or other database programs, including, SQL and SAS. 
  • Ability to work with large data sets.  Preferably, health care data.
  • Ability to conduct fact-finding research and utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations and solve problems.
  • Ability to organize electronic notes and document processes.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively.
  • Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials, in both technical and non-technical formats.
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and follow-through on assignments.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • At least one year of professional experience in health care economics or analysis; additional experience working with large data sets can substitute for specific health care data experience.
  • At least one year professional experience utilizing Excel, Access, SQL, SAS, or other statistical analysis software.
  • At least one year experience of data collection and analysis.
  • A bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics or related field can substitute for 1 one year of professional experience utilizing Excel, Access, SQL SAS or other statistical analysis software.
