The Maintenance Mechanic is a member of the Bureau of General Services team in the Division of Finance & Administration.

 

YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Ability to troubleshoot repairs and implement corrective action with minimal supervision.

 

THE HIRED CANDIDATE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING

 

This position is responsible for performing highly skilled work in all mechanical and building trade functions associated with maintenance and repairs of an agency-owned building. 

 

Responsible for performing all maintenance on electrical power systems.  Performs electrical work such as replacing outlets, light ballast, electrical switches and light bulbs.  Install electrical outlets, light fixtures, ceiling fans and circuit breakers, electric motors and related electrical mechanical equipment.  Responsible for pulling wire to connect circuits and pulling cable for computer and telephone lines.  Troubleshooting electrical problems and use test equipment to discover and correct malfunction.  Assist service contractors in the regular servicing of alarm systems, phone systems, communication/data lines.

 

Responsible for performing all maintenance and repairs on plumbing fixtures, valves, faucets, pipes, traps and drains, commodes, hose bibs, urinals, and sinks, as required.  If a problem is discovered, troubleshooting of the repair and making recommendations for corrective action if warranted.  Assist service contractors in servicing of equipment.

 

Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system.  This consist of lubrication of air handling motors and bearings, checking and adjusting belt tension, replacing fan belts, cleaning and aligning pulleys, checking and lubricating damper motors, performing minor duct repairs.  Also changing filters, testing electrical amperage levels and monitoring refrigerant levels.  Inspection and documentation of systems function on a monthly basis.  If a problem is discovered, troubleshooting of the repair and making recommendations for corrective action if warranted.  Assist service contractors in quarterly servicing of equipment.  Review vendors work to determine if specifications were followed.

 

Responsible for maintenance of the exterior, interior and the building’s grounds, which includes installation of locks, door closures, cabinets, framing, tile, drywall, painting ceiling grid systems, cement surfaces, repairing carpet, flagpoles, windows, and other fixtures and repairs to the building and grounds i.e. sidewalk, parking lots, retaining ponds, etc.

 

Maintain preventive maintenance program for building and mechanical equipment, order materials, and keep track of materials cost and inventory on hand.  Maintain accurate records of work orders.  Monitor performance of vendors and contractual services to the facility.  Notify the building manager of situations requiring additional actions.  Conduct monthly safety inspections of the building’s exterior, and grounds, mechanical, electrical and fire safety equipment, and enter any problems found on inspection sheets.

 

Perform lawn maintenance as needed per season, to include mowing, edging, debris removal, tree trimming, planting flowers, etc.

 

Perform related tasks as assigned.
