Minimum Qualifications

  • Active Florida Registered Nurse License or a multi-state license from another Compact State
  • Basic Life Support Certification
  • Required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or day in the event of an emergency
  • Occasional flexible work hours
  • Willingness to distribute emergency contraception, choice counseling
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Pediatric/Adolescent health experience

    Duties and Responsibilities
    This is a senior community health nursing position functioning in the specialized area of school health for a period of 10 months every year.  This work includes planning, monitoring, evaluating and/or providing direct services for children and families in a school setting.  Working primarily in the school health programs, the incumbent assists in developing, implementing, and monitoring student health and educational services.  Additional duties will include rotation in the immunization clinic and special projects as assigned throughout the school year. 
    Access to confidential records and computer access will be based on the need to know when involved in specific client's care, assisting with investigating communicable disease reports, participating in quality improvement activities, i.e., peer review, records review audits.  Work is performed under the supervision of a senior community health nursing supervisor.
    Utilizing a process of nursing assessment of client and family needs, counsels, guides, and directs "at risk" students and their families in assigned schools through a system of care and services offered in the schools and community.  Identifies barriers to care, system access, and works in collaboration with school personnel individuals /agencies on a consultative basis to improve access of needed services for families/individuals identified as "at risk".  Functions primarily as a member of the Comprehensive School Health program by developing, individualized student health care plans and emergency plans, providing child specific training to unlicensed assistive personnel, offers classroom presentations on health topics, participates in health screenings, and coordinates appropriate referrals in the community in collaboration with the school district health service staff. 
    Participates in staff meetings, staff development, and continuing education programs.  Demonstrates efforts, which contribute toward attainment of department's goals fostering positive interagency communication.
