ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) within three (3) months of appointment. 

The incumbent of this position is subject to pre-employment, post-accident, random and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing requirements of the Federal Highway Administration Rule, Title 49, Part 382 CFR.

Successful completion of a drug test is a condition of employment in the position in accordance with Section 112.0455 F.S. “Drug Test” means any chemical, biological or physical instrumental analysis administered for the purpose of determining the presence or absence of a drug or its metabolites.

The incumbent of this position must possess a Valid Department of Corrections (DOC) Inmate Supervisor Training Certificate Card.

Must successfully pass a background check that includes a criminal history check, and must be approved by the Department of Correction’s Contract Manager, or designee and complete required orientation/training in the supervision of inmates, prior to assuming supervision.  Shall attend refresher training annually thereafter.

Occasional to moderate travel required. Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

The anticipated hiring salary for this position is $23,645.18 annually.

 

JOB DUTIES:

Responsible for monitoring and coordinating the use of recreation areas by the public on Etoniah Creek State Forest, Carl Duval Moore State Forest, Welaka State Forest and the Training Facility.  Collects and reconciles user fees and insures the enforcement of applicable rules and regulations.  Provides information to the public and conducts guided tours as required.  Assists with the development of new recreation areas and facilities as needed.  Supervises inmate work squads on forest projects as needed.

Plans/prepares meals for Florida Forest Service (FFS) personnel during training sessions and for the public for special events at Welaka State Forest.  Maintains clean and sanitary conditions in the kitchen and dining room areas.

Performs site and facility maintenance, including landscaping, mowing, basic carpentry, and electrical and mechanical repairs.  Performs equipment maintenance on vehicles, other machinery and forestry tools.  Maintains the forest road system and harrows existing fire-lines.  Assists foresters with other forest management activities, including stand description, prescribed burning, reforestation, insect and disease control, ecosystem restoration, and boundary line marking.

Researches, performs and reports on specific projects related to resource management.  Conducts any required wildlife habitat management work on the tract and controls exotic plant pests which may occur on the area. Insures that endangered and threatened species are protected on the property.  Responsible for selecting, marking, measuring and determining the volume of standing trees for timber sale purposes following verbal or written instruction.  Maintains proper records and estimates of timber sale volumes as required.  Checks logging operations to insure compliance of logging contractors.

Performs other duties as assigned in a timely manner.
