JOB DUTIES:
 

This position reports directly to the Regulatory Supervisor and will work closely with the Office Supervisor and the Commercial Grove Survey Supervisor. This is a technical position responsible for monitoring regulated activities in commercial and residential areas for compliance with Citrus Health Response Program (CHRP).

 

  • Administers and supports the administrative policies and procedures of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Plant Industry, and the Vero Beach CHRP Office.
  • Monitors the exit of personnel and equipment from groves.
  • Monitors grower/processor/packinghouse decontamination equipment according to current CHRP protocol.
  • Performs inspections to monitor fruit movement in commercial groves, processing plants and packinghouses for compliance with the current CHRP regulations.
  • Performs inspections on equipment and fruit trailers in commercial groves, processing, and packinghouses to ensure compliance with current CHRP regulations.
  • Prepares and maintains records of regulatory inspectors and events.
  • Reports daily activities to the CHRP Regulatory Supervisor.
  • Attends regulatory meetings and program training sessions as required.
  • Communicates with growers and grower groups to assist with understanding CHRP regulations.
  • Maps new Multi-Blocks and collects information on variety, spacing, rootstock, number of trees and rows, calculation of net tree acres and other grower information.
  • Performs Multi-block edits and shape changes.
  • Performs dumpsite inspections.
  • Validates status of Grove Blocks / Multi-Blocks (MB) as part of ongoing ESRI site verification.
  • Collects GPS reading for suspect plants and assist in sample collections.
  • Assist survey crews by inspecting smaller selected MBs or residential properties as needed.
  • Helps train new regulatory personnel in current protocols, policy, and procedures.
  • Travel to district groves and or processors may require long distant trips for inspections.
  • Inspections and or meetings may require trips outside of or district.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Plant Industry and the Immokalee CHRP Office.
  • Knowledge of report writing, maps, portable GPS receivers, iPad tablets etc.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS/ESRI.
  • Knowledge of field symptoms of citrus black spot, citrus canker, HLB, and other citrus diseases would be helpful but not limiting.
  • Skill in completing forms and maintaining accurate records.
  • Skill in performing basic math, report writing, and completion of forms.
  • Skill in basic computing.
  • Ability to organize many tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with other employees and interact the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. and bend repetitiously.
  • Ability to work in outdoors in hot, cold, and humid environments.
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground and in inclement weather.
