Children’s Legal Services within the Department of Children and Families is seeking candidates for an attorney position for part-time or full-time in Ft. Myers, FL.  The position is a combination of remote and in office working.  In addition, we will consider recent graduates for this position as well as senior attorneys.

This position can allow for additional employment outside of the Department if approved.

About Us:

Children’s Legal Services (CLS) represents the State of Florida through the Department of Children and Families to ensure the health and safety of children and the integrity of families. Working with other Department programs and community stakeholders, CLS advocates for the safety, well-being, and permanency of Florida’s abused, abandoned, and neglected children. With a team of more than 300 attorneys, CLS is the leader in the courtroom at each stage of a Chapter 39 proceeding. Across the state, CLS attorneys make a difference in the lives of Florida’s children.

A CLS attorney has primary responsibility for multiple cases and must ensure Florida and federal legal requirements are met. A CLS attorney collaborates with investigators and case managers to gather the evidence necessary to support the legal action that is appropriate for each child. CLS is responsible for preparing its partners to serve as witnesses at trial. And, CLS attorneys employ best practice litigation techniques so that CLS’s pleadings and trial presentations lead the nation in dependency advocacy.

Because the best lawyers are always learning, CLS has instituted a year-round curriculum that includes an intensive multi-day CLS New Attorney Training, an annual multi-day Advanced Litigation Academy, webinars, case law meetings, practice pointers, and live training. Topics covered during these sessions include trial advocacy and courtroom skills, evidence, ethics, statutory changes, and legal writing. The CLS training team is certified by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) and uses the methodology for all litigation skills trainings.

Salary & Benefits:

An entry level attorney salary is $47,500 and the salary for a senior attorney is $52,000 per year.  Both positions include an excellent, highly-valued benefits package with health benefits, life insurance, dental insurance benefits, four weeks paid vacation, paid state holidays, a personal day, paid sick leave, and a state-funded retirement package.
