Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position will serve on the Flagler County School Based Dental Sealant Program where the hygienists travel to elementary schools with portable dental equipment and provide preventive dental services to children including oral health assessments, oral hygiene instructions, sealants, and fluoride. This is a highly responsible, professional position that requires effective communication with school principals and staff, oral health education with children, organization of paperwork for data entry, entering clinical services into Eagle Soft and HMS, knowledge of portable dental equipment, and ability to track inventory. This position requires local travel.
Provide preventive dental services
Prepare and teach dental presentations in school.
Provide oral assessments, oral hygiene instructions, sealants, and fluoride
Complete SEALS data entry and provide summary of services for FLOSS survey.
Case management of children with urgent needs and increase referrals to dental homes for children in need of services.
Assists with preparing orders and inventory control for School Based Sealant Program.
Maintain records, enter clinical and billing services into Eagle Soft and HMS.
Travel to schools daily in a state vehicle
Ability to work in fixed dental clinic as needed.
Miscellaneous functions
Attend and participate in staff development, such as team/staff meetings and in-service training/continuing education
Participates in disaster-related duties as directed
Maintains timely submission of EARS and timesheets
Provides backup support to other dental staff as needed
Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of dental hygiene principles, practices & procedures.
Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation & grammar usage
Knowledge of dental terminology
Skill in operating a personal computer.
Skill in using dental instrument and equipment.
Skill in performing prophylaxis.
Ability to instruct patient in preventive dental techniques.
Ability to operate general office equipment
Ability to follow office procedures & practices
Qualifications:
Minimum
Must be willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency? This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
Must have a Registered Dental Hygienist License
Must have a Dental Radiography Certificate
Must have experience applying preventive dental sealants
Must have experience working with children
Preferred
Experience working in a school-based sealant program
Experience working with the FLOSS program
Experience working with the SEALS program
