OPS Health Support Technician

 

Specific Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the physician, advanced practice registered nurse, nurse, the health support technician assists the health care professionals by performing activities and duties related to diagnosis, treatment, and general health status of the students.

  • Reception and initial assessment of patients.
  • Triage patients in accordance with clinic procedures.
  • Perform lab testing
  • Assist in ordering supplies.
  • Maintain an antiseptic environment. 
  • Stock shelves and exam rooms with medical and lab supplies.
  • Screens vision, hearing, height, and weight.
  • Assist with patient discharge instructions.
  • Perform outreach and education to students to include tobacco use, healthy behaviors, healthy food habits, illegal substances, alcohol, and vaping.
  • Provide supervision for the safe and accurate self-administration of medications by students, including administering insulin per policy
  • Accurately document clinic visits
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of clinical functions, basic client care, routine medical, physical and developmental tests.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interview students to obtain health histories and to provide health care information.
  • Ability to keep records, compile data and prepare reports.
  • Ability to administer emergency treatment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and accompanying software

 

Qualifications:

Minimum-

  • High school graduation or GED
  • Current Florida Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant licensure. 
  • CPR certification
  • Dependable transportation

 

Current-

  • At least 6 months of experience working as a CNA or Medical Assistant
  • Bilingual with fluency in English and Spanish

Where You Will Work:

Pinellas Park High School Clinic (Primarily), while assisting the other 4 (Boca Ciega, Gibbs, Largo, Northeast High School) school-based clinics in Pinellas County.

 

This is a 10 month and 35 hours a week position that follows the school schedule. The clinic has limited hours during the summer, typically all clinic staff return approximately 2.5 weeks prior to school starting in August.
