The duties and responsibilities of this position include dental examination, diagnosis and treatment of infections and diseases at the Department of Health in Orange County Dental Program.  Clinic locations are at the Hoffner Dental Clinic, Mobile Dental Unit School-Based Sealant Program, and the Ryan White Dental Clinic.  Must travel to various clinic locations as needed.

Performs clinical dentistry, performs clinical examinations, diagnosis and treatment planning, dental x-rays, extractions, restores teeth which have caries, periodontics, endodontics, refers patient when necessary for further treatment.  Maintains necessary licenses, DEA certificates, Medicaid Provider numbers, Statewide Dental Plans, NPI number, etc.

Supervises auxiliaries in equipment maintenance, supply procurement, patient records, assisting at chairside and all other responsibilities of auxiliaries. Trains staff in current infection control measures in accordance with CDC guidelines, new dental techniques and the use of new dental materials, etc. 

Carries out the duties and responsibilities of Key Custodian as specified in DOH Information, Security and Confidentiality Policies, Protocols and Procedures.  Carries out related duties as required.

Attends seminars, conferences and continuing education related to dentistry.  Responsible for necessary annual trainings as mandated by the Florida Department of Health (i.e. OSHA, customer services skills, bloodborne pathogens, etc.).  Responsible for submission of daily Employee Activity Reports (EARs) in HMS.

Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques of dentistry.

Knowledge of dental treatment techniques,

Skill in using dental instruments and equipment.

Skill in filling cavities, extracting teeth, performing dental restorative work and treating dental diseases, infections, injuries and malformations of the mouth and teeth.

Ability to perform dental examinations and diagnose dental problems.

Ability to supervise people.

Ability to train others.

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to monitor the quantity and quality of dental care

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Lisensed Dentist in the state of Florida
  • 1-2 years experience as a Dentist
  • Experience in providing dental services to children
  • Experience in providing emergency care to adults (extractions)
  • Are you bi-lingual (English being the primary language)
  • Experience in working with Patterson Eaglesoft Electronic Oral Health Records
  • Willing to travel between clinic locations (Mobile Dental Unit and fixed Dental Clinic)
  • Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency duties including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural.
