Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is varied and professional nursing work in the School Health department. Staffs and provides nursing care in the Special Needs Shelter during activation during emergencies.
Access to confidential records and computer access will be based on the need to know when involved in specific patient's care, billing activities, ordering prescribed medication or supplies, investigation of communicable disease reports, established quality improvement activities, i.e., peer review, records review audits, and investigation complaints.
Uses knowledge of quality improvement (QI) methods and processes to work with other staff to help identify opportunities for improvement and develop a culture of quality within DOH-Indian River; assists in improvement projects, as assigned.
Assists School Health Nursing Supervisor and school health staff to identify and respond to outbreaks and activities involving school age children. Participate in high-risk immunization programs and immunization outreach activities for children and adults. Responsible for providing case management, and disease specific education, to school age children and their parents.
Assists in co-ordination of Employee Health Program which includes, but not limited to immunization services, annual screening for Latent TB Infection (LTBI) and N-95 mask FIT testing. Maintains employee health database.
Utilizing the nursing process provides nursing assessments, counseling and referrals for students. Coordinates and participates in special health screenings as outlined in the objectives of the School Health Plan and in Program Goals. Identifies high risk criteria. Maintain appropriate records and coordinates team efforts incompliance with the goals and objectives of the School Health Program. Services rendered are an enhancement to existing services and not duplicated. Serving as a consultant, assists and works in liaison with the DOE School Health Coordinator, Assistant School Health Coordinator and Health Room Assistants.
Conducts conferences with students, parents, school staff, social worker/counselor and others as needed. Provides training and educational programs to students, school and CHD staff, parents and the community about the approved methods to assist students on health and in the utilization of health care.
Clinical work, special projects and assisting with preparedness planning as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
Performs other related duties as required. Other duties as assigned.
Private and county vehicle use may be required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:
Knowledge and experience with providing pediatric immunizations, school mandatory pediatric immunization schedules and nursing experience with school aged children and their parents.
Qualifications:
Minimum-
- Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
- A current Florida Registered Nurse license or a multi-state license from another Compact State.
- A current Basic Life Support Certificate.
- Required to work occasional flexible hours when needed, including some occasional evenings and weekends.
- 3-5 years verifiable nursing experience
- A valid driver's license
