Assistant State Attorney


The State Attorney’s Office for the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida is responsible for the prosecution of all crimes committed in Orange and Osceola Counties. We are seeking Assistant State Attorneys with five years of experience that have good judgment, share the office’s mission to keep people safe by prosecuting those who disrupt our community, and to ensure the pursuit of justice is done in a transparent, fair, and thoughtful way that maintains the trust of those we serve.

Applicants must possess a strong interest in courtroom litigation, with excellent communication and critical thinking skills. Positions in this classification generally perform mid-level, professional legal work under close supervision, and will assist in the prosecution of cases of routine complexity.


Essential Functions:


The following duties are normal but are not limited for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.


  • Assists in the conduct of jury trials, preliminary and pretrial hearings, and related courtroom proceedings.
  • Investigates, evaluates and prepares cases for trial.
  • Conducts case research and documentation.
  • Communicates and serves as a liaison with victims, family, witnesses and community partners.
  • Manages caseload.
  • Interact with victims, police, and witnesses to make critical decisions.
  • Attend all court hearings.
  • Prepare legal documents and reports for court proceedings.
  • Select jurors, argue motions, meet with judges and court personnel, and conduct trials in court.
  • Attend and present evidence to grand juries.
  • Manage communication with stakeholders.
  • Train staff on legal issues and goals.
  • Provide administrative assistance to State Attorney as required.
  • Supervise attorneys and staff as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Juris Doctor Degree required
  • Member of The Florida Bar
  • Five years of experience in criminal justice, legal or generally related field is required; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.


Specific License or Certification Required:


Must be a member in good standing of the Florida Bar.
