The Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs (FDVA) seeks to hire talented and dedicated individuals who share our commitment to excellence. The incumbent in this position serves as a Computer Network Architect for the Agency and reports to a Distributed Computer Systems Analyst II – SES position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science or related field required.
  • 4+ years’ experience designing LAN, WAN, MAN, VoIP, VOD, VRF, WiFi.
  • 4+ years’ experience supporting AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • 4+ years’ experience troubleshooting circuit transport.
  • Possess and maintain current driver’s license and have the ability to travel within the state of Florida.
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs. of equipment.
  • Successful completion of the due diligence process to include, but not limited to, a Level II Background check and drug screen.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Current CCIE or equivalent certification.
  • RCDD certification.
  • BGP, OSPF, QoS, VSaaS design experience.
  • IPv4/IPv6 conversion.

Starting salary will fall within the range of $52,208.83 - $56,559.57 and will depend upon the top candidate’s level of experience and education.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent in this position serves as the Computer Network Architect for the FDVA and is tasked with redesigning the current flat network to accommodate transport of VOD, VSaaS, and WiFi. Implements our video headend to include DirecTV, VOD, and VSaaS for all nursing homes. Configures HA and establishes a Colocation supporting HQ, eight nursing homes, and one domiciliary for COOP. Ensures 99.99% uptime. Converts the IPv4 scheme to IPv6. Configures multiple VLANs to prepare for voice, video, and data segregation with QoS. Implements our video headend to include DirecTV, VOD, and VSaaS for all nursing homes. Troubleshoots and repairs fiber and copper connections. Recommends industry standard infrastructure hardware including switches, routers, controllers, and IDS/IPS purchases and configures all of these items that might be a mixed vendor ecosystem. Conducts network training for all FDVA members including initial onboarding partnering with HR.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of: Network protocols (AD, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS); Enterprise Email Systems in a geographically diverse environment; enterprise information technology (IT) architecture; patch and change management enforcement; networking equipment; principles and methods for integrating server components; server diagnostic tools and fault identification techniques; the type and frequency of routine maintenance; IT security principles; access authentication methods; problem solving techniques; disaster recovery continuity of operations plans; data backup, types of backups (e.g., full, incremental), and recovery concepts and tools; system administration, operating system hardening techniques; monitoring, detection and remediation tools and procedures; measures or indicators of system performance and availability; the type and frequency of routine maintenance needed to keep equipment functioning properly; networked systems management principles, models, methods (e.g., end-to-end systems performance monitoring), and tools.

Skilled with/in: Supporting network hardware/software for a LAN/WAN/VOIP/Streams; conducting vulnerability scans and recognizing vulnerabilities in security systems; system administration of switches, routers, firewalls, and load balancers; troubleshooting network connectivity and system performance issues. Listens to what other people say and asks questions to assess and fit gaps needed for digital transformation. Analyzing needs and product requirements to create designs. Conducts tests to determine whether equipment, software, or procedures are operating as expected. Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation protocols as well as electric circuit boards, processors, chips, and application interfaces. Transitions environment to a Cloud-native DevSecOps architecture applying critical thinking, identifying long-term implications, implementation planning, equipment selection, and coordination training session agency wide.
