CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. New employees of the Department of Military Affairs will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  2. New employees of the Department of Military Affairs are required to participate in a direct deposit/electronic transfer program. 
  3. The Department of Military Affairs is paid on a monthly basis.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent; AND A valid Florida Driver's License; AND One (1) year of experience as an Automotive Mechanic or related field; OR
  • Certification from a vocational or postsecondary education program.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist, grasp, push, pull.
  • Must have manual dexterity with hands and fingers.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs. or more

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains all aspects of environmental compliance including but not limited to: overall facility housekeeping, proper usage of hazardous materials, proper storage of hazardous materials, proper disposal of hazardous materials and proper record keeping related to environmental compliance. Utilizes proper safety equipment and procedures related to handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Performs cutting and welding as required to maintain the fleet and to support the other sections. Will perform this task in a safe, healthful, and conscientious manner. Each task will be performed in a manner consistent with durability, strength requirements, and cost effectiveness.
  • Repairs and maintains all types of vehicles and equipment. Performs all diagnostic and system tests as required to effect expedient troubleshooting and repair.
  • Removes and installs major system components which are sent out for repair or overhaul (e.g. fuel injection pumps, gasoline and diesel engines, automatic transmissions, power dividers, transfer cases, etc.) Replaces or repair fuel injection pumps, carburetors, gasoline, and diesel engines by replacing rings, pistons, valve inserts, crankshafts, camshafts, main bearings, and seals.
  • Performs administrative record keeping as required to ensure proper documentation of time, parts, materials and work performed on work orders.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Knowledge of the principles and basic techniques of automotive repair work.
  • Knowledge of the equipment and materials used in the repair of automotive equipment.
  • Skill in the use of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to perform a variety of automotive equipment repairs.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles.
  • Ability to inspect and tune up equipment.
  • Ability to assist in body and fender repair work.
  • Ability to replace, repair and install accessories, such as radios, heaters, windshield wipers, etc.
  • Ability to provide instruction to the lower level mechanics.
  • Ability to perform oxygen acetylene and electric welding.
  • Ability to repair and replace fuel injection systems.
  • Ability to review ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.
