This is a professional-level position within the Office of Child and Family Well-Being (OCFW) that requires strong time management, initiative, and independent judgment to plan, coordinate, and execute statewide prevention grant activities.
The Prevention Specialist serves as a statewide subject matter expert in the prevention of child abuse and neglect and is responsible for ensuring alignment with the Department’s strategic goals and full compliance with federal grant requirements. This position maintains oversight and administration of multiple federal prevention grants, including CAPTA, CJA, and CBCAP, and plays a critical role in advancing statewide prevention initiatives.
This position has expanded responsibilities that include direct coordination and collaboration with all Community-Based Care (CBC) lead agencies and non-lead agency providers statewide. The role ensures consistent implementation of prevention strategies, compliance with grant requirements, and alignment with departmental expectations across Florida’s child welfare system.

• Oversees, supports, and guides the Department’s strategic prevention goals and activities to ensure compliance with federal grant requirements.
• Serves as the statewide subject matter expert on child abuse and neglect prevention.
• Maintains oversight and administration of federal prevention grants, including application development, reporting, monitoring, and compliance.
• Coordinates directly with CBC lead agencies and non-lead providers to ensure consistent program implementation, accountability, and performance outcomes.
• Assists OCFW leadership with prioritizing initiatives and tracking internal and external communication plans.
• Leads and participates in interagency and inter-program workgroups focused on prevention, including national conference calls, meetings, and statewide convenings.
• Plans and executes conferences, meetings, and prevention-related events aligned with grant objectives.
• Develops briefings, reports, talking points, presentations, and responses for internal leadership and state and federal partners.
• Serves as program lead and prevention content expert for contracting and consulting services, including managing external marketing and advertising contracts.
• Acts as the primary child maltreatment liaison to the Executive Office of Adoption and Child Protection and supports the Children’s Cabinet on related issues.
• Provides technical assistance to stakeholders and represents the Department in statewide and national prevention efforts.
• Serves as the program office subject matter expert to prevention-focused workgroups and interagency partners.

• Draft grant applications and assist in developing and revising contracts, scopes of work, and reporting requirements.
• Support development of monitoring criteria, policies, and procedures related to programmatic and financial oversight.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
• Florida Certified Contract Manager (FCCM) certification.
• Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in grant management.
• Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in contract management.
• Strong knowledge of grant processes, contract administration, and compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate information from multiple sources into clear, concise deliverables.
• Travel is required

Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in social work, business, education, public policy, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Experience working within child welfare, prevention services, or public sector grant programs.
