The Division of Certified Public Accounting is headquartered in Gainesville. 

The selected candidate will be required to be based in Gainesville or travel there as necessary to ensure adequate leadership, support and supervision of staff.

The Work You Will Do:

The Director is responsible for Board administration and the operations of the Division of Certified Public Accounting. The Director ensures that all the services necessary to perform the duties of Ch. 473, F.S. are provided by the Division of Certified Public Accounting. The Director reports directly to the Department’s Deputy Secretary of Professions.

 

He or she is responsible for planning, developing, organizing and directing policies and procedures related to the division’s functions and assigned staff.

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

The Director assists, advises and coordinates with the Florida Board of Accountancy on a wide variety of administrative and policy matters to ensure an effective delivery of services to the public, identifying problems and centralizing expertise to resolve them.  He or she must always be available to the board to render necessary assistance with administrative actions.

 

The position is actively involved in the preparation and coordination of meeting agendas and is responsible for keeping Board members informed of topics to be discussed at meetings and for providing background information.

 

The Director is responsible for preparation and administration of the Division's budget; advises and makes recommendations to the Department and the Board of Accountancy regarding financial matters. Recommends approval/disapproval of major expenditures, agreements and contracts involving operation of the Division. Reviews operating expenses of each section supervised to ensure compliance with budgetary authorization.

 

The Director is responsible for matters relating to personnel, including position descriptions, hiring, dismissal, discipline, performance evaluations, salary recommendations and other related matters/functions.

 

The successful candidate for the position will have knowledge and experience with organizational planning, coordination and execution, including the ability to:

  • interact with various stakeholder groups in the profession
  • apply applicable Florida Statutes, rules, policies and procedures
  • manage the daily functions of the Division, through supervision of the staff and using effective oral and written communication skills.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:(must match the position description)

  • Ability to prioritize and manage several simultaneous projects under deadline.
  • Completes projects on time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively with others.
  • Knowledge of relevant Florida Statutes such as F.S. 455, 473 and FAC Chapters 61H1-19 through 39, department policies, and applicable procedures.
  • Knowledge of Versa Regulation, OnBase, and People First programs.
  • Skills to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in order to accomplish the department's mission.
  • Ability to explain complex legal issues and communicate well with government officials, employees, and citizens.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire excellence in others.

 

Minimum Requirements: 

Applicants are required to have at least three (3) years of management experience within a local, state or federal regulatory program   

 

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Preference will be given to applicants with secondary education in business management, finance or accounting.
