Location: Office location TBD based on selected candidate's residence within the State of Florida.
Starting Salary: $3,230.77 Bi-Weekly. (In accordance with current spending restrictions, an internal promotion into the position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee's current rate, whichever is higher).

DESCRIPTION:
Supervising Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) education staff and coordinating site visits and educational improvements, IDEA grant development, oversight, and monitoring to ensure all federal and state guidelines are met.
This is work conducting organizational studies and evaluations, providing technical assistance, and developing operations and procedures to assist organizations in operating more efficiently and effectively.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Serves as the Deputy Director of K-12 Education and serves in absence of the education director.
Supervises employees in the North, Central, and South region. Responsible for communicating, motivating, training, and evaluating the employees. Plans and directs the work of employees.
Provides technical assistance to Florida’s Juvenile Justice education programs, school districts, DJJ headquarters staff, and DJJ provider personnel with associated responsibilities for partnership, program, and resource development.
Participates in state level interagency workgroups and task forces on education-related aspects of delinquency prevention, intervention, detention and/or treatment services.
Conducts site visits at DJJ programs and reports on site specific activities.
Performs highly independent work managing and overseeing the operation of the IDEA grant for Florida Scholar’s Academy ensuring all state and federal guidelines are followed.
Coordinate programs and services with the Department of Education’s Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services (BEESS) and education provider’s IDEA Coordinator to meet identified grant deliverables.
Develop and implement monitoring protocols and provide regular reports to leadership regarding the effectiveness of ESE and Section 504 implementation within Florida Scholar’s Academy.
Conducts thorough on-site visits, technical assistance, and training. Provides direction and guidance on ESE and Section 504 implementation to meet student needs.
Manage overall IDEA grant efforts and determine future funding needs, documenting payments, and expenditures, optimizing the IDEA grant administration process, preparing, and monitoring budgets and progress reports, ensuring compliance with grant regulations, reviewing grant proposals, and preparing financial reports.
Coordinate and engage with grant stakeholders.
Manage timelines and review and approve grant deliverables.
Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
This position is required to comply with Section 215.422,F.S., Prompt Payment Compliance Law.
At least five years of Exceptional Student Education Experience.
Knowledge of the operations of the Florida Juvenile Justice System and continuum of services provided through DJJ. Must have experience teaching exceptional student education (ESE) population and preferred experience serving as an ESE staffing specialist or in school administration.
Experience conducting professional learning/ training sessions and be willing to travel to outlying facilities.
Ability to understand and apply educational state and federal statutes and rules.
Ability to make presentations to stakeholders.
Ability to assess effectiveness of programs and activities and develop reports identifying program effectiveness.
Ability to develop working relationships with a variety of agencies, courts, law enforcement and school districts. Ability to exercise discretion in dealing with confidential student information.
Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
The ability to travel throughout the State of Florida.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree.
Experience working with DJJ programs/providers, grant development and monitoring experience, master’s degree in exceptional student education/education administration or other masters level education specific certification.
