TITLE: FDC/OIG-EVIDENCE INSPECTOR 

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located within the Office of Inspector General, Bureau of State Investigations Criminal Division (CID), Region 3.

The mission of the Office of the Inspector General at the Florida Department of Corrections is to protect and to promote public integrity and accountability within the Department through investigations, audits, and inspections. We aim to detect and prevent fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct, ensuring that the Department operates efficiently and effectively while upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

 

JOB DUTIES:

 

  • Handles, Logs, Secures, Moves, Transports and Delivers OIG property and OIG evidence to and from locations, including evidence rooms, correctional institutions, Police/ Sheriff/Federal Laboratories, Clerk of the Courts, State Attorney Offices, and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Ensures proper packaging of evidence items, according to FDLE guidelines, prior to accepting items for proper storage and retention.
  • Conducts inventories and provides chain of custody documentation involving property and evidence.
  • Maintains computerized reports and/or logs evidence and property information.
  • Operates computer terminal to input and retrieve information to ascertain the disposition of cases.
  • Could include managing multiple region evidence rooms.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Meet the minimum qualifications and standards as set forth in section 943.13, Florida Statute and possess an active Correctional Officer or Correctional Probation Officer Certification.
  • Must possess a valid Correctional Officer, Correctional Probation Office Certification as issued from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
  • Must possess at least three (3) years of full-time experience as a Correctional Officer, Correctional Probation Officer.
  • Must possess two (2) years of investigative experience. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of s.112.532 – 112.534, F.S. (Law Enforcement Officers’ and Correctional Officers’ Rights).
  • Highly skilled in time management and organization.
  • Strong report writing skills.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
