This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, hardworking individual, with experience in the building and construction trades, knowledge of historic structure maintenance, and strong communication skills to fill the position of OPS Historic Maintenance at Fort George Island Cultural State Park at the historic Ribault Clubhouse.  The incumbent will work a 28-hour week including weekends, evenings and holidays.  There are no Health or Vacation Benefits.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will possess a thorough knowledge of the Federal and State of Florida historic preservation standards and have experience with the evaluation and preservation of historic structures. The applicant must be knowledgeable of the historic preservation methods and techniques, historic architecture, the Secretary of the Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, and the National Register of Historic Places criteria for evaluation. The applicant must possess experience in the building and construction trades, have knowledge of historic structure maintenance, and be able to maintain effective working relationships with others, and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.

 

MAINTENANCE

Performs and assists in the supervision of repairs, maintenance and construction of historic park buildings and facilities.  Performs and assists in the completion and supervision of maintenance and repairs of buildings and facilities in the park.  Operates all park maintenance equipment. 

 

ADMINISTRATION

Accurately prepares various reports, logs and schedules.  Estimates materials and obtains bids to secure materials for repair, maintenance and upkeep of park facilities, equipment and vehicles. 

 

Performs other related duties as required.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • principles and techniques of the skilled building trades and/or mechanical repair work
  • safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work
  • Federal and State of Florida’s historic preservation program. Evaluation and preservation of historic structures.
  • History and theory of preservation.
  • Historic preservation methods and techniques of Historic architecture.
  • basic arithmetic

 

 

 

SKILL IN:

  • using various tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work
  • painting, plumbing, carpentry and electrical.
  • installation & repair work in carpentry which includes but is not limited to roofing, trim, framing, flooring, doors & windows
  • utilize a computer including, but not limited to software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite. 

 

 

ABILITY TO:

  • perform routine inspections and identify and investigate problems
  • read blueprints
  • follow verbal and written instructions
  • coordinate work assignments and ensure proper completion
  • determine work priorities
  • maintain a valid driver’s license

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Valid driver’s license.

 

Preferred knowledge of:

  • Secretary of the Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties
  • Florida Division of Historical Resources Compliance Review consultation process.
