JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing legal counsel and advice to the Department’s General Tax Administration staff regarding more than 30 taxes and fees, including sales and use tax, reemployment (unemployment) tax, communications services tax, corporate income tax, and fuel tax, consistent with the direction and advice provided by the Chief Legal Counsel, General Tax, and the General Counsel.

Responsible for thoroughly researching all state and federal tax statutes, court cases, rules, and regulations affecting the operations of the General Tax Administration. Responsible for providing legal representation in petitions for administrative hearings and civil lawsuits challenging the Department’s tax assessments, refund denials, and garnishment actions, as well as administrative complaints and injunctive actions against Florida taxpayers’ tax certificates of registration.  Represents the Department in all phases of litigation, including research, preparation of pleadings, discovery, preparation of witnesses, hearings, settlement negotiations, and trial, as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Admission to the Florida Bar and two (2) years of professional experience in the practice of law

PREFERENCES:

  • Experience with administrative law and litigation.

  • Work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
  • Possible office locations include: Alachua, Coral Springs, Daytona Beach, Fort Myers, Fort Pierce, Jacksonville, Lake City, Lakeland, Largo, Leesburg, Marianna, Melbourne, Miami, Naples, Orlando, Panama City, Pensacola, Sarasota, Tallahassee, Tampa, West Palm Beach. 

SALARY: $60,000.00 - $78,999.96.
