Your Specific Responsibilities:
The incumbent, an employee of the Florida Department of Health in DeSoto County (DOH-DeSoto), represents the agency and its mission and values. The incumbent is part of the organization and is expected to promote cooperation, courtesy, and teamwork in a diverse environment.
This is a Career Service Dental Hygienist position that will provide services in a structured environment for the DOH-DeSoto dental program under the direction and supervision of the Dental Executive Director. The preferred candidate will work 40 hours per week.
- Assesses patient’s mouth and dentition and charts any pathologic disorders.
- Performs all tasks allowed by Florida Statute, including dental assessment, prophylaxis, SRP, exposure of x-rays, application of topical fluoride and sealants
- Instruct patients in oral hygiene utilizing appropriate aides.
- Maintain patients' records, through electronic health records (HMS, Dentrix).
- Complies with DOH security policies and guidelines.
- Accurately document records as instructed by the dentist and the DOH Standard Operating Procedures.
- Appropriately maintains state equipment and instruments through lubrication, sterilization, and daily cleaning.
- In a courteous and accurate manner, informs the public of clinical procedures and DOH services
- Attends and participates in dental health unit staff meetings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of dental procedures, expanded functions, dental materials, dental terminology, and excellent customer service.
- Knowledge of Electronic Records and digital radiographs, portable x-ray.
- Skills in preparation of dental materials, skills in sterilization and infection control, skills in equipment maintenance.
- Skills in delivery of expanded functions, skills on record keeping, computer skills, skills on efficient patient flow.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients and co-workers.
- Ability to work well with others, team player.
- Ability to avoid and resolve conflict in a professional manner.
Qualifications:
Minimum
- Licensed in Florida as a Dental Hygienist
- Valid Florida driver’s license
The preferred candidate is bilingual in the English and Spanish languages.
