The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) plans for and responds to both natural and man-made disasters. These range from floods and hurricanes to incidents involving hazardous materials or nuclear power. FDEM is the liaison between federal, state, and local agencies. FDEM prepares and implements a statewide Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, routinely conducts extensive exercises to test state and county emergency response capabilities, provides technical assistance to local governments as they prepare emergency plans and procedures, as well as conducts emergency operations trainings for state and local government agencies.

FDEM serves as the lead agency for the State Emergency Response Team (SERT), whose primary goal is the coordination of the state’s efforts during disaster response and recovery. This coordination is conducted within the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in Tallahassee. Additionally, FDEM manages the State Watch Office; the 24-hour a day operation tasked with providing situational awareness to stakeholders statewide. After a disaster, FDEM conducts damage assessment surveys and advises the Governor of the State of Florida on whether to declare an emergency and seek federal relief funds. Position Overview and Responsibilities:

This position serves as a Logistics Warehouse Technician. The Logistics Warehouse Technician ensures all systems are functioning properly at the Florida Central Operation and Coordination Office (FL-COCO) in Auburndale, Florida and the facility is ready for use at a moment’s notice, such as, but not limited to: HVAC units; closed circuit TV system; Direct TV system; alarm system; load and unload trucks and other vehicles using various forklifts, pallet jacks or motorized pallet jacks. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Conduct cross-docking operations, inspect received inventory, re-stage as required, rewrap as required using mechanical pallet wrapping, banding and shrink-wrap machines, and place products that are palletized in the warehouse.
• Conduct regular inventory of assets, both expendable and non-expendable in the facility and field-based equipment as required.
• Work in conjunction with the FDEM Accountable Property Officer based in Tallahassee to ensure inventory is properly accounted for at FL-COCO.
• Inspect, maintain, or oversee all facility safety equipment. Call for service or repair as required.
• Conduct daily, monthly, and quarterly inspections of equipment and systems as required, and work with certified inspectors and companies of equipment to maintain compliance with all policies, laws, and regulations.
• Stage and maintain pre-scripted response kits of equipment and supplies.
• Assist in ensuring that emergency vehicles, generators, and other mechanized equipment stored at the facility are functional at all times and that they receive proper maintenance when needed in coordination with the Vehicle Maintenance Specialist.
• Maintain the State Logistics Response Center schedule / calendar and assist staff in setting up and breaking down training and meeting rooms for their events, ensuring that areas used are put back in proper order.
• Ensure that the proper building maintenance is performed and that all needed cleaning and maintenance supplies are ordered and on hand for use.
• Maintain current list of repair companies, under state contracts, to ensure that the repairs needed are made in a timely manner.
• Conduct regular inventory of sensitive and non-expendable supplies and equipment stored at the facility.
• Travel as required.

In response to emergency events, FDEM employees may be required to work irregular hours, to work more than 8 hours per day, to work extended periods (including weekends and holidays), to work at locations other than their official headquarters, and to perform duties in addition to those outlined in the employee’s position description. Employees must be able to deploy to emergency sites with limited advance notice.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Skill in operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment.
• Ability to learn and utilize warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory tracking software.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to safely lift, carry, and move materials and equipment. 
• Ability to work extended hours and deploy during emergency activations.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and perform effectively during emergency response operations.
• Ability to travel as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be certified in material handling equipment (forklift) with a minimum of three years’ experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class A or B, or the ability and willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment.
• Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
